In a world where technology is constantly changing, it’s sometime a punch in the gut to read the release of the newest smartphone launch, mostly because you know what’s in your hand is already outdated even if you shelled out the cash for your new device last week. When it comes to the car you drive, it’s safe to say you’ll be driving your vehicle for longer than 90 days, but you still want a current technology package. With the redesigned 2017 Sportage, you get just that, and more, and you don’t have to buy the top model to get it.
The Sportage LX, the starting trim, boasts a 5-inch touchscreen and rear-view camera, along with Bluetooth and 3.5” display stereo. If you are looking for a bigger screen but don’t want to jump budget for the EX, you can add on the Cool and Connected Package which includes the all-new 7” touchscreen display featuring UVO, aka “Your Voice,” which features Android AutoPlay and Apple CarPlay. This is Kia’s version of a mobile device; you can download apps, monitor your car’s driving habits, access 911 Connect or Enhanced Roadside Assist, and also check your maintenance requirements via the Vehicle Diagnosis icon. With Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plug your smartphone in via the USB cable and all the features you love about your phone’s convenience becomes available to you hands-free; destination navigation, making outbound phone calls, retrieving voicemails, receiving text messages and responding verbally, and all of this shows up on your 7” touchscreen.
Ready to move up to the EX trim, ok, the list of options grows with an upgrade. You automatically get all the Cool and Connected technology and then you have the option to splurge for the Technology Package which gives you an 8” touchscreen with navigation, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning system, front and rear park assist, the impressive Harmon Kardon 320 watt premium audio system, and high beam assist, among many other features.
Want to go all in, opt for the SX trim, which of course gives you everything listed above along with including a color LCD instrument panel and dynamic bending light, which is actually pretty cool – it pivots the headlights to follow curves in the road.
It seems they’ve thought of it all, a nice change to roll down windows and tape decks. You spend a lot of time in your vehicle; you should enjoy the comfort, and FUN of engaging technology. The brand new 2017 Sportage boasts a strong technology configuration and it’s so easy to use. Take a look at the inventory for photos and more details.
